It’s that time of the year when coffee shops all over Britain’s high streets start launching their festive flavours, getting caffeine fans in the mood for the Christmas season.
Whether you step into a café to order a latte sweetened with your favourite festive syrup or you like getting a new flavour of coffee so you can brew a delicious hot drink in the comfort of your own home, Christmas is certainly an occasion to experiment more with your coffee beans, syrups and creams.
American coffee shop Starbucks spearheaded the Christmas coffee trend when it launched peppermint mochas and eggnog lattes back in 1995. Now, 24 years later, every high street café has their own festive version of their Americanos, lattes, macchiatos and cappuccinos, enabling coffee connoisseurs to find their ideal flavour combination.
This year, Starbucks’ Christmas menu also includes toffee nut latte and gingerbread latte.
Costa has introduced Irish velvet latte and cappuccino, hazelnut praline latte, gingerbread latte, festive spiced cappuccinos, and Christmas-flavoured and hot spiced apple tea for those not in the mood for a coffee fix.
Pret A Manger also has festive alternatives, offering customers gingerbread and Crème Brulee lattes, while Gregg’s is selling a salted caramel latte and mint mocha.
This year, Caffé Nero’s Yuletide coffees include salted caramel, spice ginger with cinnamon, hazelnut and chocolate chip, and caramelised almond lattes.
