Machine PLC Conversions
MJS Packaging Services are often asked these days to rework the control systems on packaging machinery. Instead of customers having to replace old and tired electromechanical machines, they can now be given a new lease of life by updating the machine control system, with a PLC. The PLC replaces all the old unreliable relays, cam switches, timers, heater controls etc. All of these functions can be incorporated in to a PLC control system.
Access to the machines operating parameters is by a colour touch screen, which is password protected, so only engineering staff can make machine parameter changes. There are no moving parts to fail in a PLC, hence the reliability and repeatability of operation. Cam switches are a thing of the past and can be replaced by a 360 degree shaft encoder, which will give an accurate 1 degree adjustment for all machine functions and they can be adjusted dynamically, instead of having to stop to make adjustments. Machine speeds can be programmed in to the PLC, as can temperature controllers, fault counters, production counters and anything else you can think of.
We include the fault indicator pages, to flag up the reason for the machine stopping and an associated help page to tell the operator what to do to overcome the problem. The pages shown are just a few sample pages from a previous installation but the pages can be as simple or complicated as required.
The pages can be tailored to any type of machine, to suit the customers needs. Mimic panels can also be created, so that not only does the screen flag up the problem but pinpoints the location of the fault as well. The counters can not only monitor production rates but also fault frequency, which helps identify continuing problems. If your production requirements need multiple recipes, one for each product to be packed, these can include all necessary paprameters for each product. This will of course save time in product change overs.
